We are targeting a start date in the fall of 2028. A variety of factors go into determining which grades we can serve when we launch, but a reasonable expectation is kindergarten through 2nd grade. After that, we plan to add a grade each year through middle school.

We are still determining an exact location for the school, but our goal is to secure a facility in the Oakland or Berkeley area.

Classical education, especially when it is founded in Christian faith and worldview, has as one of its primary goals the cultivation of virtuous character in students. Sometimes called a “liberal arts” education, it seeks to form affections, habits, skills, and knowledge in ways that enable students to become fully alive. Some hallmarks of classical education include an integrated curriculum, the trivium and quadrivium, and a high value on reading the Great Books, as each of these elements aids in the formation of virtue in students. A holistic approach to classical education includes deep engagement with math and the sciences, as well as a thoughtful and measured approach to technology.

At EBCA, our teachers and administrators all must sign a statement of faith, and mature faith is a criterion in hiring decisions. The curriculum and daily/weekly rhythms are all rooted in and express a Christian worldview and values. The content of the faith commitments of the school are rooted in the Great Tradition of historic Christianity as expressed, at a minimum, in the Apostle’s and Nicene Creeds. Our goal is for committed Christians of a variety of denominations to be integrated into the community – to have real disagreements while serving God in unity amidst the many core convictions that we share.

There is no faith requirement for students who attend the school or their families. Families who are willing not to contradict the faith commitments of the school as expressed in its curriculum and culture are welcome at the school. We believe that this education is of incredible value for all children.
